THE CHAKRAS, ENERGY CENTRES - Vishuddhi
Vishuddhi Chakra — The Center of Truth and Expression
Vishuddhi, the fifth chakra, resides in the throat, spanning from the base of the neck to the region of the Adam’s apple. Known as the throat centre, it is the seat of communication, authentic expression, and living in alignment with one’s truth.
When Vishuddhi is clear and balanced, expression flows naturally. Words are spoken with honesty and care, creativity moves freely, and listening becomes as important as speaking. This chakra supports clear communication, inspired expression, and the courage to voice truth without force or fear.
When the throat centre is out of balance, expression can become distorted. A depleted Vishuddhi may appear as hesitation, suppression of feelings, or difficulty articulating needs. When excessive, it can manifest as compulsive talking, interruption, dominating dialogue, or harsh self-judgement and criticism of others.
Restoring harmony to Vishuddhi requires both awareness and practice. Writing, vocalisation, chanting, singing, and creative outlets help clear energetic congestion. Yogic practices such as gentle neck movements, Fish Pose, Viparita Karani with conscious breath, and focused meditation—particularly Udana Vayu Kriya—support upward flow, clarity, and refined expression.
At its essence, Vishuddhi acts as a conduit, allowing the wisdom of the heart to be shaped into sound, language, and lived truth. When balanced, expression becomes effortless, grounded, and deeply aligned.
