THE CHAKRAS, ENERGY CENTRES - Anahata

The Anahata Chakra, or heart centre, is located at the centre of the chest and is symbolised by a green, twelve-petalled lotus. Governed by the element of air, it is closely connected to the lungs, heart, and circulatory system, and is considered the energetic seat of love, compassion, and empathy.

Just as the breath moves between the visible and invisible, Anahata acts as the bridge between the lower and upper chakras. It is the meeting point of our earthly nature and our higher awareness—where instinct and insight, body and spirit, human and divine come together.

When Anahata is balanced, we experience a natural sense of openness and connection. Love flows freely—toward ourselves, toward others, and toward life itself. We are able to give and receive without fear, meet others with compassion, and move through life with forgiveness, trust, and inner peace.

When this centre is out of balance, the expression of love can become distorted. An overactive heart chakra may manifest as attachment, jealousy, or losing oneself in relationships. A depleted Anahata can appear as emotional withdrawal, guardedness, or difficulty trusting and truly connecting. In either case, the natural rhythm of giving and receiving is disrupted.

Anahata invites us to soften the armour we build around the heart. It reminds us that love is not something to be earned, chased, or controlled—it is our natural state, something we remember rather than create.
