Clusters of Energy - Swadhisthana CHAKRA
The second chakra, known as the sacral chakra or Swadhisthana, is located in the lower abdomen—between the pubic bone and the top of the sacrum. Representing the water element, it governs the energy of cohesion and connection, binding emotional, sexual, and creative forces into a unified current of life.
Swadhisthana has six nadis, radiating out at 60-degree angles, a geometry mirrored in the crystalline pattern of snowflakes—another water-based manifestation of cohesion and symmetry. This chakra is intimately connected with creativity, sensuality, emotional intelligence, and the fluidity of both body and mind.
When in balance, Swadhisthana allows for the joyful expression of creativity and sensuality, without clinging or repression. One can form meaningful relationships, experience pleasure without addiction, and navigate emotional waves with equanimity.
An overactive sacral chakra may show up as emotional volatility, excessive indulgence in sensory pleasures, or becoming consumed by sexual desire and attachments. On the other hand, a blocked or underactive chakra can cause emotional numbness, creative stagnation, low libido, or difficulty forming intimate connections.
To bring this chakra into balance, we must reestablish the natural flow of energy within the pelvic basin. This can be done through yoga practices that target the hips and pelvis, fluid movements, and asana that support both grounding and openness, such as Baddha Konasana, Upavistha Konasana, Chakrasana, and Apanasana. Intention
A more subtle and advanced practice for working with this energy is Vajroli Mudra, an energetic seal involving the pelvic floor and urethral muscles. Traditionally associated with sublimation and mastery of sexual energy, Vajroli Mudra helps redirect downward-flowing energy (Apana Vayu) upward through the central channel (Sushumna), enhancing vitality, inner control, and spiritual focus. When practiced with discernment and under proper guidance, it supports the transformation of raw sensual energy into higher states of awareness and creativity.
In essence, Swadhisthana teaches us to flow without drowning, to feel deeply without losing our center, and to create from a space that is both wild and wise.
