Minimise the Manic: Understanding Yoga, Doshas & Gunas
Self-awareness begins with understanding the relationship between our body, mind and energy. As we deepen this awareness, we can make more conscious choices to restore balance and reconnect with our true nature.
At Bhav, we draw on the ancient wisdom of yoga and Ayurveda, exploring the Doshas and Gunas to better understand our natural tendencies and how to work with them.
The three Gunas — Sattva, Rajas and Tamas — are the fundamental qualities that influence our minds and behaviour. Sattva represents clarity and harmony, Rajas activity and restlessness, and Tamas heaviness and inertia. While each has its place, an excess of any can pull us away from balance.
In a world that constantly encourages us to do more, it’s easy to become caught in the momentum of Rajas. Minimising the manic isn’t about doing less for the sake of it; it’s about recognising when our energy is scattered and finding our way back to clarity. Through yoga, pranayama and meditation, we can calm the mind and cultivate greater balance.
Ayurveda offers another lens through which to understand ourselves: the Doshas > Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These unique combinations of energies influence our physical, mental and emotional tendencies. By recognising our constitution and signs of imbalance, we can adapt our diet, lifestyle and yoga practice to better support our individual needs.
The key is learning to work with your nature, rather than against it.
This week at Bhav, we explore how yoga, Ayurveda, Doshas and Gunas can help us recognise unhelpful patterns, regulate our energy and make more conscious choices in everyday life.
The goal isn’t to become someone different, but to understand ourselves more deeply and live with greater clarity, vitality and purpose.
Minimise the manic. Cultivate clarity. Find your balance.
