Clusters of Energy - Ajna Chakra

The Ajna Chakra, or third eye chakra, is located at the centre of the forehead, just above the space between the eyebrows. “Ajna” translates to “command” or “perception,” pointing to this chakra’s role in intuition, insight, and higher knowing. Represented by a deep indigo two-petaled lotus, it is considered the gateway to higher consciousness and spiritual vision.

When balanced, the Ajna Chakra awakens clarity, intuition, inner guidance, imagination, and the ability to visualise. It allows one to perceive beyond the five senses—tapping into inner wisdom and seeing life with greater depth and understanding. Those with a strong third eye often experience vivid dreams, heightened self-awareness, and a clear connection to their spiritual path.

When out of balance, however, the Ajna Chakra can manifest as indecision, mental fog, or distrust in one’s intuition. This disconnection from inner guidance may result in overthinking, difficulty concentrating, and feeling lost or purposeless. Physically, imbalance may present as headaches or tension around the brow. On the flip side, an overactive Ajna Chakra may lead to escapism or disconnection from everyday reality.

To bring balance back to the third eye, we can turn to practices that direct Prana (life force) to this centre. Prana Dharana, a meditative breath practice, helps energise and awaken the Ajna. A more potent variation, Prachardhana, involves an Ujjayi type of breath at the roof of the mouth to shave the underside of the brain stimulating the mid brain.

We’ll be exploring these techniques in the studio this week. Creative activities like writing, painting, and visualisation also stimulate the imaginative faculties of the Ajna. Time in nature, self-reflection, and quiet moments of mindfulness are all powerful tools to nourish this inner centre.

When the Ajna Chakra is alive and harmonised, we walk through life guided not just by sight—but by insight.
