40 DAY CHALLENGE - Week 2, STABILITY

According to tradition, cultivating stability is paramount—both on and off the mat.

The Yoga Sutra, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Gheranda Samhita, and other classical texts all point to the same truth: nothing is more fundamental to practice than steadiness. Only when the body and mind are made stable does the true path of yoga begin to unfold.

The modern belief that yoga is primarily about flexibility is a recent misunderstanding. Flexibility alone will only take us so far. Yoga truly begins when we slow down, establish stability, and turn toward the parts of the mind we often avoid. In that stillness, we catch a glimpse of who we are beyond thought, time, and form.

“Once the moon has been made steady, then the sun can be made to shine.”

Gheranda Samhita

This powerful teaching reminds us that a steady mind is the foundation for all progress—both in practice and in life. Without stability, effort becomes scattered, growth becomes uncertain, and regression is possible.

The energy cultivated through yoga is like sunlight—it is neutral. It illuminates everything, both the refined and the unresolved aspects of the mind.

Yoga is about power: the power to transcend limitation, move toward the heart, and elevate consciousness. Yet without stability, that power can be distorted into control or manipulation. With a calm, steady mind, discernment naturally arises—and with it, wiser choices.
